In 2020 the World Health Organization celebrates the International Year of the Nurse and Midwife, making it the perfect year to recognise dedicated healthcare workers in HESTA's annual Australian awards.
Nominations are now
open for the ninth staging of the industry superfund's celebration of
those who deliver vital services to the Australian community,
including not only nurses and midwives but also nurse
educators, researchers and personal care workers.
"The national awards are a fantastic opportunity to shine a spotlight on the amazing achievements of nursing and midwifery professionals from around Australia," HESTA CEO Debby Blakey said.
"Submitting a nomination is an opportunity to acknowledge the achievements of individuals and organisations working in nursing or midwifery who have demonstrated leadership, innovation and pursued excellence to deliver exceptional care," she added.
There are three categories for the 2020 awards – Nurse of the Year, Midwife of the Year and Outstanding Organisation – with each winner receiving a $10,000 prize to be used for further education or team development.
Nominations for the 2020 HESTA Australian Nursing and Midwifery Awards close on Sunday 9 February 2020 – colleagues, patients, and employers can visit the official website to make their submissions.
The finalists will be announced on Tuesday 7 April 2020 and the interstate candidates will be flown to Melbourne for the awards dinner on Wednesday 6 May 2020.
Last year, the Nurse of the Year Award went to Professor Kate Curtis for her work advocating to improve emergency hospital care across Australia and internationally, particularly for children. Epworth Richmond's Sheila Salonga was a finalist in a very competitive field.
Tracey
Stephens from Monash Health in Clayton, Victoria won Midwife of the
Year for improving maternity and healthcare outcomes for Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander women and babies.
ACT's Calvary Public Hospital's INSPIRED team from its palliative care service Clare Holland House took out the Team Excellence award.
