Medtronic recognised for robot innovation

Sunday 18th October, 2020

Medtronic has maintained its status as one of the most inventive companies in Australia and New Zealand after receiving more recognition as a health technology leader.

Its robotic solution for a patient remote monitoring service ranked it second in the health industry category of the2020Most Innovative Companies list.

Medtronic was among more than 600 companies nominated for theprestigious annual report, published by the Australian Financial Review and Boss Magazine.

Last year it was third in the same category for an insulin pump system.

"I'm proud to see Medtronic riseto the top of the innovative health industry once again," said Liz Carnabuci, vice-president and managing director of the global firm's Australasia operations.

"It's a true testament to thededication of our employees in delivering state-of-the-art technology and innovation."

Medtronic's CareLink 360 device has improved patient survival rates, allowing round-the-clock remote surveillance of people with implantable pacemakers, defibrillators and cardiacmonitors.

Previously, clinicians had to manually filter andmanage large amounts of data – but the robotic solution automatically transfers that output into reports and extracts the clinically-relevant textand images to create a meaningful summary for the patients' healthcare provider.

The service can now support more than 26,000patients, improving the workflow for 315 cardiologists and cardiacelectrophysiologists.

"At Medtronic, we continuously work with clinicians to identify ways to better support them and their patients," Ms Carnabuci said.

"Once we learned that previous manual processes had beenexhausted, robotic process automation was identified as the solution to take ourefficiency and quality of care to a new level, which had been previously unobtainable."

The list, now in its ninth year, is based on a rigorousassessment process managed by Australia's leading innovation consultancy,Inventium, along with a panel of industry expert judges.

Medtronic is an APHA Major Sponsor.
