Lions Eye Institute appoints new Chief Executive

Lions Eye Institute has appointed Dr Glen Power to its newly-created role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Dr Power will support Managing Director Professor Bill Morgan, who will remain responsible for the overalldirection of the Perth-based research institute and ophthalmicclinic.

The new role is part of Lions Eye's strategic growth plan,set in motion in 2020 to ensure a successful and sustainable future for the organisation, which aims to prevent and cure blindness and eye disease.

"As Chief Executive Officer, Dr Power will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of theorganisation, and will play a crucial role in leading a number of exciting projects that are currently indevelopment," Professor Morgan said.

Over the past 22 years, Dr Power has held senior roles within the Australian health industry, includingCEO of Perth Clinic, St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospitals, and StJohn of God Warrnambool Hospital.

He is currently Branch President of theAustralian Private Hospitals Association in Western Australia.

Dr Power has also been Chief of Staff and Principal PolicyAdvisor to the state's Minister for Health.

A Western Australian Rhodes Scholar in 1992, he studied science, law and politics at the University of Oxford, Murdoch University, University of Western Australia and Melbourne University.

Professor Morgan, a practising ophthalmologist and researcher, will retain a strong focus on the research functions of thenot-for-profit organisation, which has clinics in Nedlands,Murdoch, Midland and Broome.
