Daphne Clout, 58, has been a cook at Dudley Private Hospital in New South Wales' Central Tablelands region for 10 years.
What is the best part about your job?
I love working with food, from preparing to serving beautiful meals to our patients. I also love baking.
What is something about your job that not many people know about, and what would surprise other people about working in a private hospital?
The timing, skills and knowledge required to work in a commercial kitchen. Some people think it's just mashing potatoes, but a lot goes on behind the scenes to ensure our patients get the correct diet.
What do you love about working in a private hospital?
The people! We're like a big family. I also love interacting with the patients.
What do you like to do outside of work and/or what is something your colleagues don't know about you?
I love riding my Harley with my husband, travelling and spending quality time with family and friends. I also love a cocktail!
What is the best piece of advice you've ever received?
'Work hard' was my dad's motto and something he instilled in me. Great advice from my boss, which has helped with my cooking skills.
