Veronica Rapley, 50, has been General Service Officer – Housekeeping/Laundry/Catering at Dudley Private Hospital in New South Wales' Central Tablelands region for over three years.
What's the best part about your job?
The variety I get from working in different departments, not having to do the exact same job every day. I also love the break over the Christmas period.
What is something about your job that not many people know about, and what would surprise other people about working in a private hospital?
Being in general service is so much more than cleaning. The opportunity to chat to patients whilst dropping off their meals, delivering their laundry or cleaning their rooms.
What do you love about working in a private hospital?
Interacting with the patients is always a highlight of my day! The close team that you work with, a lot have become good friends.
What do you like to do outside of work and/or what is something your colleagues don't know about you?
I love my horses and do a lot of campdraft riding. We do a four-day ride each year, which covers 120 kilometres. I also love my dogs; we go pig-hunting a lot.
What is the best piece of advice you've ever received?
Respect your elders and think about yourself.
