Australian-first recognition for Ramsay

Ramsay Health Care is celebrating the success of its efforts to bring through new generations of workers after being named Australia's top graduate employer in the healthcare sector.

As well as topping Grad Australia's annual ranking in the health category, the country's largest private hospitals operator also made the nationwide Top 100 across all sectors.

Ramsay'sLearning Manager,Rebecca Rundle, said the group was "extremely proud" to become the first healthcare organisation to achieve that distinction since the list started in 2015.

"We've worked hard to develop our two-year graduate program, whichincludes a foundation year and a development yearwheregradsgain experience in a variety of medical, surgical and rehabilitation settings," she said.

"Our graduates get comprehensivetraining, coachingand supportto help them build a career with Ramsay and provide opportunities to specialise in their chosen area of nursing."

Facing a field of more than 3,500 competitors, Ramsay Health Care ranked 80thin the 2023 list, which was calculated based on student popularity and program quality.

The group was also recognised with a'Best Workplace Award for Salaries' honour.

In February, Ramsay welcomed nearly 500 new graduate nurses to take part in its two-year program, which offers experience in range of medical, surgical and rehabilitation settings across its hospitals in Queensland, News South Wales, Victoria, Western Australia and South Australia.

"I'm certain they will thrive working with our experienced and dedicated teams of nurses around the country," said Ramsay's Chief Nurse and Clinical Services Director, Dr Bernadette Eather.

"I'm especially excited to see so many new nurses in some of our regional hospitals, with Port Macquarie welcoming nine new grads, three times the intake from last year, and Nowra welcoming six new graduate nurses, double the intake from February 2022."

The graduate nurses will spend time in specialities such as cardiology, general surgery, renal, gynaecology, haematology, neurosurgery, obstetrics, oncology, orthopaedics and mental health.

They may also experience operating theatres, day surgeries, intensive care or high dependency units, robotic surgeries, and a variety of pre- and post-operative wards as they build a specific career path within nursing.

"Once they're part of the Ramsay family, nurses and midwives can access our Ramsay Nursing and Midwifery Academy, which offers 10 programs to advance and upskill our nursing staff and offer mentorship opportunities," Dr Eather added.
