Melinda Buckle - Belmont Private Hospital

Wednesday 31st May, 2023

Melinda Buckle is Executive Assistant to the Chief Executive Officer and Director of Clinical Services at Aurora Healthcare's Belmont Private Hospital in Brisbane, where she has worked for over two and a half years.

What's the best part about your job?

The best part about my job is being involved in all the different aspects of a hospital. Every day there is a new challenge, something to learn, and I get a great deal of satisfaction and feeling of achievement when completing complex tasks.

What is something about your job that not many people know about, and what would surprise other people about working in a private hospital?

The diversity of my role can be diary management one minute to employment contracts, to ordering flowers, organising flowers, arranging catering for stakeholder meetings, secretariat for 26 out of 29 committees, programming swipe cards, allocating keys, writing letters to patients, AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency), OHO (Office of the Health Ombudsman) and third-party stakeholders.

What do you love about working in a private hospital?

Knowing that what I do is just one cog in a very large wheel and everything that happens behind the scenes helps the hospital operate efficiently to meet patient needs.

What do you like to do outside of work and/or what is something your colleagues don't know about you?

I like decorating cakes, gardening, attending music concerts and live performances ranging from classical to heavy metal music.

What is the best piece of advice you've ever received?

Your priority may not be the same as another's and preparation prevents poor performance.
