$10m upgrade boosts Tamworth services

Tamara Private Hospital has completed a $10 million redevelopment aimed at meeting rising demand for healthcare services in Tamworth and the surrounding regions.

TheRamsay Health Care facility now has four operating theatres, following the addition of a state-of-the-art Stryker iSuite featuring advanced robotic technology.

It has also upgraded itscentral sterile supply department(CSSD), theatre staffroom and education area,and day surgery pre- and post-operating areas.

Tamara Private CEO Debra Maslen said the expansionwouldhelp the45-bedhospital provideadditionalqualitymedical and surgicalcare for people in New South Wales' north-east communities.

"Having afourthoperating theatreallowsextra theatre time for our surgeons, so thatmorepatientscanhave their surgeryclose to homein Tamworth," Ms Maslen said.

"By investing inthe latesttechnology, such as the da Vinci Xi surgical robot, we're able to offerthe latestproceduresandattractmoreleading surgeons to the region."

Ms Maslen said the upgraded CSSD was well-equipped to manage the expanded services andadditionalresponsibilities caused by theCOVID-19pandemic.

"The CSSD is responsible forcollecting, decontaminating, assembling, packing, sterilising, storing and distributingsterile goods and equipment to patient care areas," shesaid.

"This critical role within the hospital has become even more important in recent years."
