Old meets new in mental care 'game-changer'

Wednesday 6th March, 2024

It is based in the surrounds of a listed Queensland Heritage building dating back to 1873, but patients can expect a very modern experience at Brisbane's newest private hospital.

The $36 million Avive Clinic Brisbane, which has retained Skilmorlie house in its complex, features state-of-the-art patient care technology.

New operator Avive Health has partnered with global company Oneview Healthcare to integrate the Care Experience Platform (CXP) at its first two private mental health hospitals.

The cloud-based system is now live for more than 123 inpatient beds at Avive's Brisbane and Mornington Peninsula facilities, with 80 additional endpoints to support comprehensive patient care and streamline hospital operations.

"Investment in technology across our business, including in our hospitals, is a key point of difference at Avive," co-founder and co-CEO Greg Procter said.

"Our Oneview patient tablets, particularly in the mental health sector, are a game-changer that already are supporting improved outcomes, specific to what each of our patients need.

"Our clinical team is able to access and share patient treatment information, complete rounding, capture real-time patient input and adjust care during a hospital stay; while our patients have greater control over their environment with lighting, air conditioning, information resources, therapy programs and streaming platforms – to name just a few."

Avive Clinic Brisbane adjoins the heritage-listed Rosemount Hospital, built as a home in the Windsor suburb in the 1850s and established as a military care facility during World War One.

As well as refurbishing Skilmorlie house, construction works included converting the existing Ramada Hotel into a new three-storey building.

"Avive Health is focused on delivering better patient experiences and outcomes," Mr Procter said.

"Avive Clinic Brisbane, along with each of our hospitals into the future, will offer sophisticated inpatient treatment and therapy, complemented by day programs, outpatient specialist suites and home-based virtual support."
