Cancer patients in Victoria's Frankston and Mornington regions will soon have access to new treatment options.
Peninsula Private Hospital is adding radiation therapy to its oncology services with a new partnership, giving patients a more seamless and convenient experience in one location.
"We're delighted to have GenesisCare commence radiation therapy services at Peninsula Private Hospital, enhancing the cancer care journey for existing and future patients," Peninsula Private Hospital CEO Michelle Henderson said.
"The addition of radiation therapy services will complement our comprehensive surgical and medical oncology services, supported by a dedicated and experienced team of specialists, nurses and allied health professionals."
The Frankston-based Ramsay Health Care hospital already provides surgery, chemotherapy, immunotherapy and allied health services for its cancer patients.
The state's cancer register showed that nearly 100 Victorians were diagnosed with a form of the disease every day in 2022.
Peninsula Private Hospital's radiation therapy services are expected to begin in the second half of 2024, treating up to 500 people annually.
GenesisCare will also employ a cancer care nurse coordinator to provide emotional support and help patients navigate their personalised care plan.
"We're thrilled to bring together a group of local, dedicated GenesisCare doctors to this service," radiation oncologist Dr Mario Guerrieri said.
"Their long-standing relationships and experience in radiation oncology care across Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula will complement the existing cancer care services at the hospital."
