Blessing for San's patient assessment team

Monday 8th July, 2024

Sydney Adventist Hospital's Medical Assessment Unit (MAU) has celebrated its first anniversary.

The MAU fast-tracks definitive diagnosis and treatment plans for patients coming from emergency care.

For patients, it means an expedited clinical assessment and rapid diagnostics, all within the first 24 hours.

Since opening in June 2023, the unit has cared for more than 1,700 patients in 10 specially designated beds on Gee Ward at New South Wales' largest private hospital – also known as the San.

This month, the number of beds was doubled to 20.

MAU Clinical Director Dr Auriel Jameson said she was "deeply grateful" for the efforts of Gee Ward's Nursing Unit Manager, Emily Stephenson.

"As well as the nursing team, the doctors, nurses, physios, pharmacists and all the staff who have made the unit a success," she added.

To officially celebrate the unit's first anniversary, Chaplain Kym Cross delivered a short blessing.

"We come before you today with hearts full of gratitude for the team of nurses and full allied staff, who tirelessly serve and care for others on Gee Ward," she said.

"Thank you for their compassionate hearts, skillful hands, and selfless dedication.

"We lift them up to you, and ask for strength, wisdom and protection over each of them and their families, continue to bring healing and comfort to those they care for, and all those who come through these doors."
