Ramsay scholarship supports LGBTQIA+ students

Tuesday 23rd July, 2024

Ramsay Health Care has continued its commitment to diversity and helping the next generation of healthcare workers, with scholarships now open for young LGBTQIA+ students.

The study grants, including the Ramsay Health Care Scholarship, are awarded by the Australia's leading LGBTQIA+ education charity, the Pinnacle Foundation.

Ramsay, the country's largest private hospitals operator, signed on as a gold partner of the Pinnacle Foundation in 2023, promising scholarship support for three years.

Chanelle McEnallay, Chair of Ramsay's Diversity Equity Inclusion and Belonging committee, said the scholarships were for Australian students looking for financial help with their full-time study.

"I am excited to learn who will be awarded the first Ramsay Health Care Scholarship, which will help them continue on their journey to reach their full potential," she said.

Scholarship applications for full-time study at public universities and TAFEs starting in 2025 are now open until Saturday 31 August 2024.

"We specifically requested our scholarship support someone in the medical industry, in the hope that we can potentially provide additional, non-financial support as they continue their education – I'd love to be able to offer this student mentoring support, and even help with work placements," Ms McEnallay added.

"Perhaps one day they can come and work with us in the future."

Ms McEnallay said the Diversity Equity Inclusion and Belonging committee was committed to seeking opportunities to "support medical and healthcare professionals overcome challenges arising from their identity".

"In Australia, we operate more than 70 facilities, employing more than 30,000 people," she said.

"Our aim is to have a workforce as diverse as the communities we operate in."
