Celebrate excellence in HESTA Nursing and Midwifery Awards

Nominations are now open for the2025 HESTA Australian Nursingand Midwifery Awards.

The 18thedition of the awards will again celebrate the exceptional contributions by nurses, midwives, nurse educators, researchers, and personal care workers who improve health outcomes across the country.

There are three categories – Nurseof the Year, Midwife of the Year, and Outstanding Organisation– with each winner to take home $10,000.

Debby Blakey, CEO of health industry superfund HESTA, called on Australians – especially patients, colleagues and employers – to nominate a standout healthcare professional or organisation.

"Nurses and midwives consistently demonstrate extraordinary skills and empathy often under extremely challenging circumstances," she said.

"Their commitment to patient care is inspiring, and we owe them a great deal of gratitude for what they do every day."

Nominations can be made via theHESTAawards hubuntil Sunday 15 December 2024.

The finalists will be announced next April, with the winners revealed at a special ceremony in Melbourne in May 2025.

"I encourage anyone who works with or has benefited from the care of an incredible nurse, midwife, or organisation to take the time to nominate them for their leadership, innovation and pursuit of excellence," Ms Blakey added.

Meanwhile, 24 national finalists in the2024 HESTA Excellence Awardshave been selected from a record number of nominations.

Nearly 400 entries were submitted to the annual awards, which highlight the outstanding achievements in the disability, allied health, aged care, and community sectors.

Ms Blakeyacknowledged the high quality of the nominees' contribution to the community, and praised the finalists' exceptional leadership, commitment and passion.

"The record number of nominations we've had from right across the country speaks to the incredible work of so many in these sectors that makes such a critical contribution to the health and wellbeing of our community," Ms Blakey said.

"Congratulations to all the finalists. Through their work they've demonstrated outstanding professional excellence and deep levels of care and compassion that's improved outcomes for so many. Often, they've provided a vital lifeline in people's toughest moments."

Each of the awards' four healthcare sectors has finalists in two categories – Team Leadership and Individual Leadership.

The eight winners will be announced at a ceremony on Thursday 29 August 2024.

Each will take home a share of the $60,000 prize money pool to be used for personal or professional development or further development of processes or services in the workplace.

"We're incredibly grateful for their profound contributions and thank those who nominated them for helping to recognise their amazing impact," Ms Blakey added.
