APHA President Christine Gee awarded AM
The Australian Private Hospitals Association (APHA) congratulates APHA President, Christine
Gee, who was awarded an AM in the King's Birthday Honours List on the weekend.

Christine, CEO of Toowong Private Hospital, has been recognised for 'significant service to the
community, particularly through hospital administration' following her many years working in
leadership roles in the private hospital sector, in safety and quality and mental health care.

Many of you will have met Christine or be aware of the work she has done to promote safety
and quality in Australian health care, as well as her strong and passionate advocacy for the
private hospital sector. She has been a trailblazer in the field, having participated in safety and
quality initiatives at a national level for almost 30 years.

Christine has also had a long association with APHA and has been a Board member for almost
25 years. This is her third stint as APHA President having served as the first female President
between 2006 and 2008 and again in 2016. Last year she and Vice President Carmel
Monaghan became the first all-female leadership of the Association.

In addition to leading APHA, Christine has served on a number of APHA committees and
taskforces including: the Psychiatric Committee, the Safety and Quality Taskforce, Policy and
Advocacy Taskforce.

Along with her APHA roles Christine has held several national leadership positions in the
quality and safety area including:





Member – Australian Council on Safety and Quality in Healthcare (forerunner to the
Australian Commission on Quality and Safety in Healthcare - ACSQHC)
Board member of the ACSQHC since its inception
Chair – Private Health Industry Safety and Quality Committee (PHISQC)
Chair – Private Hospital Sector Committee of the ACSQHC.

Chair – Open Disclosure Advisory Committee of the ACSQHC
Co-Chair- Patient Safety Reporting Steering Committee od the ACSQHC

Committee Member – Safety and Quality Partnership Standing Committee of the
COAG Mental Health Principal Committee.

In addition, she holds appointment to a range of key state and national bodies including:




Board member – Australian Institute of Health and Welfare
Chair – National Special Issues Committee of Medical Board of Australia
Chair – Sexual Boundaries of Notifications Committee of MBA
Chair – Queensland Registrations Committee of MBA
Board Member – Queensland Medical Board.

ACHS Medal (2021)
Centenary Medal (2003)
Longstanding Service to Quality in Australian Healthcare (2007)
Individual Achievement Award for Quality and Excellence (2005).
