Shellharbour Private Hospital has celebrated its 50th anniversary with a special community ceremony.
Guest of honour was Patricia Bate, whose father Bert Harris found the site for the hospital and raised interest among shareholders.
Dr Auntie Joyce Donovan gave the Welcome to Country and spoke about her career as a nurse.
Chris Walsh, Regional CEO Illawarra and South Coast of the hospital's operator Healthe Care, said it was an honour to recognise such an incredible milestone.
"We recognise five decades of providing high-quality healthcare, supporting thousands of patients and families, and evolving alongside the needs of our region," he said.
"What began as a small facility with a big vision has grown into a leading hospital known for its commitment to excellence, innovation, and compassionate care."

Shellharbour Private Hospital opened in April 1975
Mr Walsh said the hospital would not be a success without the "extraordinary dedication" of their doctors, nurses, allied health staff and support team.
"Each person who has walked through our doors – whether as a caregiver or a patient – has played a role in shaping the hospital we are so proud of today.
"I would also like to acknowledge the trust and support of our local community. We do not take it for granted," he said.
"It has been our privilege to care for you, your families, and your loved ones for half a century – and it is a privilege we look forward to continuing long into the future."
Mr Walsh said Shellharbour Private Hospital remained committed to embracing innovation, while keeping patients at the centre of "everything we do".
Since opening in April 1975, the facility now has 54 beds and provides consultancy, outpatient, rehabilitation day programs, surgical, general medical and rehabilitation services.
It had a $7 million upgrade after joining the Healthe Care group in 2017.
