Tamara Private Hospital's latest investment in advanced technology has consolidated Tamworth's status as a centre of robotic surgery in regional New South Wales.
Residents of the city and its surrounding regions can now access robotic-assisted knee replacement surgery close to home, with better outcomes and more convenient recovery.
Tamara Private Hospital has unveiled Tamworth's first orthopaedic surgical robot – the ROSA – which enhances surgical accuracy and improves outcomes for patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty.
"We're excited to bring this next-generation robotic technology to Tamworth," orthopaedic surgeon Dr Max Leibenson said.
"The robotic system allows us to personalise each procedure to the patient's unique anatomy. It's a significant step forward in how we perform knee replacements.
"By using robotic assistance, we aim to improve the precision of every procedure and provide more consistent outcomes for our patients."
The ROSA is designed to assist the surgeon with bone resections, soft-tissue assessments and aligning implants with increased accuracy.
Tamara Private Hospital, part of the Ramsay Health Care group, was the first to introduce robotic technology to regional New South Wales in 2018, and added the latest model of the da Vinci surgical assistant system in 2023.
"We're proud to offer the latest in surgical technology to the Tamworth community," Tamara Private Hospital CEO Debra Maslen said.
"Having access to robotic-assisted joint replacement surgery locally means patients don't have to travel far to receive the highest standard of care."
