Adelaide Community Healthcare Alliance joins APHA

Wednesday 20th May, 2026

THE Australian Private Hospitals Association (APHA) is pleased to announce that Adelaide Community Healthcare Alliance (ACHA) has joined the Association's growing membership, further strengthening the voice of Australia's private hospital sector.

ACHA is the largest not-for-profit private hospital group based in South Australia, providing acute medical, rehabilitation, surgical and obstetric services across three major hospital sites:

  • Ashford Hospital
  • Flinders Private Hospital
  • The Memorial Hospital

ACHA CEO Paul Evans said joining APHA reflects the organisation's commitment to contributing to the future of healthcare in Australia.

"Joining APHA will provide ACHA with the opportunity to be part of the wider discussion on the hospital and healthcare industry given the major issues the sector faces," Mr Evans said.

"It will allow ACHA to be more involved in shaping the future of our vital private hospital sector."

APHA CEO Brett Heffernan said ACHA's addition to the Association reinforces the importance of collaboration across the private hospital sector at a critical time.

"We are grateful for the support of ACHA and the faith all our members place in the Association," he said.

"ACHA joins APHA at a pivotal time for the private hospital sector. Hospitals across the country are facing significant and mounting pressures, from rising operating costs, poor returns from health insurers and workforce shortages through to increasing complexity in patient care.

"The contracting environment they face with health insurers is fraught and riddled with abuses the sector should not be subjected to. These restrict the investment needed to deliver the latest and best procedures, treatments and care.

"That is why APHA has led the way for a Mandatory Code of Conduct direct to the Federal Government as an immediate circuit-breaker for fairness, transparency and accountability.

"Having strong, community-focused providers like ACHA involved in the national conversation is critical as we continue advocating for reforms that support a sustainable and resilient private hospital system.

"The 12.7 million Australians with private hospital cover expect access to world-leading, affordable hospital treatment and care in a timeframe of now. They also want it close to home. These are the cornerstones underpinning the value of private health insurance. We are determined to ensure the sector continues delivering that care long into the future."
