Bethesda agrees deal for Mount Private Hospital

Bethesda Health Care has reached an agreement to secure the future of Perth's Mount Private Hospital.

The not-for-profit provider will take over hospital operations from Healthscope in September 2026, subject to a period of due diligence.

Its deal with the Western Australian government means patient services will not be affected, hospital jobs and entitlements will be protected, and Bethesda will also perform public wait-list services under contract.

"Bethesda looks forward to working with the specialist doctors to see their important work continue," CEO Dr Neale Fong said.

"We have a high reputation for teamwork and excellent patient outcomes, and combining our services will be an exciting time ahead."

With a history dating back over 100 years, Mount Private Hospital moved to its current site in late 1986.

It is now a 224-bed facility with 11 operating theatres and the state's largest private critical care unit, offering a range of care including cardiology and cardiac surgery, orthopaedics, neurosurgery, vascular surgery and general surgery.

"We felt that moving the hospital under local stewardship was the best course of action for the hospital, its staff, and the community it serves," Healthscope CEO Nicole Waldron said.

"We will work closely with Bethesda Health Care in coming months to ensure a smooth transfer of our people, patients and clinical services at Mount."

Bethesda Health Care has served the Western Australian community for over 80 years, delivering a range of private hospital specialist health services, including surgical services, sports medicine and palliative care at its Claremont hospital.
