PPHDRAS Public Reports

The Australian Private Hospitals Association (APHA) operates the Private Psychiatric Hospitals Data Reporting and Analysis Service (PPHDRAS), the national reporting and analysis service through which participating private psychiatric hospitals provide detailed information on the activity, characteristics and outcomes of hospital-based psychiatric services. The current service, operating in its present form since 2017, builds on national work first implemented in 2001.

PPHDRAS reports are prepared and distributed by APHA as part of arrangements with the Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing. The service supports sector reporting and provides data relied upon by participating private hospitals and other key stakeholders, including the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.

Hospitals' participation in PPHDRAS provides hospitals, consumers and carers, government and other stakeholders with an effective mechanism to:

• understand who is receiving services, what services are being provided, at what cost, and with what effect;
• monitor activity, case mix and outcomes over time;
• support service planning, review and quality improvement;
• demonstrate to consumers, carers, payers and government that services are being delivered safely and effectively; and
• provide an empirical basis for discussions about the effectiveness and value of private hospital-based psychiatric care.

The reports below include annual statistical reports regarding the provision of clinical services and their outcomes and patients' experiences of care based on data provided by participating private hospitals.
