Trina Jobberns, 57, has been Human Resources (HR) Advisor at Cura Day Hospitals Group since April 2019.
What's the best part about your job?
The people I work with are fantastic – it may sound like a cliché, but it's true. They're a great bunch to work with.
What is something about your job that not many people know about, and what would surprise other people about working in a private hospital?
I am the sole HR advisor working across 29 facilities, including head office, making my role very personal and hands-on. At Cura, I work directly with the managers at each facility to ensure that every employee feels valued and supported.
What surprises many is how much impact HR can have on patient care. By helping to build strong, cohesive teams, I contribute to creating an environment where everyone works together with compassion and purpose. Seeing the connection between the support I provide and the quality of care patients receive is incredibly fulfilling to me.
What do you love about working in a private hospital?
The people.
What do you like to do outside of work and/or what is something your colleagues don't know about you?
I have worked overseas in some of the most hostile environments and witnessed the worst of what people can do to one another. Yet, in those same situations, I've also seen the greatness and compassion people can show toward each other.
What is the best piece of advice you've ever received?
Never be afraid to ask for help.
