Philippe Tercier, 45, has been Engineering Manager at Bethesda Health Care in Perth for the past eight and a half years, having previously worked as an Electrical and Telecommunication Manager for 15 years in the healthcare industry.
What's the best part about your job?
The variety and complexity of challenges that the engineering team and I face every day. It is incredibly rewarding to know that my efforts directly support the clinical team, ultimately enhancing patient outcomes.
What is something about your job that not many people know about, and what would surprise other people about working in a private hospital?
My role as Engineering Manager means I must ensure everything is functional while also looking for opportunities to make the facility more aesthetically pleasing, comfortable, and aligned with the hospital's brand of quality care.
What do you love about working in a private hospital?
I love the strong alignment between the management team, the board of directors, and the facilities department. When leadership recognises the importance of investing in the resilience and modernisation of infrastructure, it empowers me to make impactful decisions that directly enhance the patient experience and improve health outcomes.
This support not only makes my work more fulfilling but also allows me to implement forward-thinking solutions that keep the hospital at the forefront of healthcare innovation. Being part of a team that values these contributions and understands their significance is incredibly motivating and rewarding.
What do you like to do outside of work and/or what is something your colleagues don't know about you?
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my wife and three kids, renovating our house, exercising, and beekeeping. Whenever I can afford it, I love travelling, especially back to my birth country, France.
What is the best piece of advice you've ever received?
"Never give up." It's a simple but powerful reminder that perseverance is key, no matter the challenges I face.
