Craig Marshall, 43, has been a Biomedical Engineer at Ramsay Health Care's Hillcrest Rockhampton Private Hospital in Central Queensland for 17 years, first as a contractor and now as staff.
What's the best part about your job?
Knowing that I have made someone's day easier when I solve an issue they are experiencing.
What is something about your job that not many people know about, and what would surprise other people about working in a private hospital?
I would have to say that not a lot of people know much about what I do. My role is always evolving with advances in technology, but I think something that might surprise other people is the amount of regulation around medical equipment and how often and thoroughly it is tested to make sure it is safe to use.
What do you love about working in a private hospital?
I love that we are passionate about what we do, and the level of care and attention provided to our patients. We really do have a great team here at Hillcrest and we all do our bit to make sure our patients have the best outcomes and overall experience whilst in our care.
What do you like to do outside of work and/or what is something your colleagues don't know about you?
Mostly I like to spend time outside with my family, riding dirt bikes, kicking a ball, or at the park with the kids. I am an active community volunteer with several different groups as I want to help make our society a better place for all, especially for our kids and for future generations.
What is the best piece of advice you've ever received?
A glass that is half full has a better chance of rising to the top, and to always treat other people as you yourself would wish to be treated.
