Michelle O'Sullivan - Greenslopes Private Hospital

Tuesday 30th April, 2024

Michelle O'Sullivan has been Admissions Secretary – Health Information Administration at Ramsay Health Care's Greenslopes Private Hospital in Brisbane for more than 12 years.

What's the best part about your job?

I have had the opportunity to experience different work areas and learn new skills, which allows me to play my little part in delivering customer service and ensuring that everyone who comes in contact with the hospital has a positive experience.

Additionally, I have enjoyed making the workplace safer through my Health and Safety representation. Importantly, the hospital has a great workplace culture and I feel supported.

What is something about your job that not many people know about, and what would surprise other people about working in a private hospital?

While my job is largely admin-focused work, some people aren't aware of the amount of customer service we provide at the main reception desk. I am often approached by visitors to the hospital for simple things such as directions. Even though this may not seem important, I enjoy helping people.

What I found surprising about the private hospital is that the people attending appear to be everyday normal people.

What do you love about working in a private hospital?

I find the private hospital a nice environment to work in and enjoy interaction with both staff and customers. Everyone seems to be happy, which is evidence that it is a nice place to work. I love our team at the main reception, admission centre and medical records – it is our work family.

What do you like to do outside of work and/or what is something your colleagues don't know about you?

Outside of work I really enjoy staying fit. I often go to the gym and yoga classes. Additionally, I really love to do fun runs and collapse in a screaming heap at the end. I am exploring further challenges in my running by entering trail runs.

What is the best piece of advice you've ever received?

Be persistent and never give up.
