Tuesday 14th May, 2024

Helen Fang, 29, has been a physiotherapist at Healthe Care's Shellharbour Private Hospital in Illawarra, New South Wales, for five and a half years.

What's the best part about your job?

Working in a diverse and young team. We all work very well together and get along well both inside and outside of the workplace.

What is something about your job that not many people know about, and what would surprise other people about working in a private hospital?

We don't just see orthopaedic patients but have a diverse range of patients that come into our care at the hospital – persistent pain, neurological conditions, musculoskeletal. We also have the flexibility to work both on the ward and within the outpatient setting.

What do you love about working in a private hospital?

The diversity of cases, and the flexibility to work across multiple settings: inpatients, Day Program, and private outpatients1:1 and group classes such as PD Warrior (for Parkinson's treatment).

What do you like to do outside of work/what is something your colleaguesdon't know about you?

Between work and completing a master's degree part-time, I like exploring new restaurants, camping, and hiking, and spending time with my friends.

What is the best piece of advice you've everreceived?

You don't have to change the world in one session.
