Eve Dawson has been Executive Manager, People and Culture at Bethesda Health Care in Perth since January 2022.
What's the best part about your job?
I enjoy the diversity of my role and working collaboratively with teams to tackle complex challenges and develop initiatives that empower staff to grow and contribute to the organisation's success.
Partnering with frontline managers, staff, and executives to create strategic, win-win solutions is the most rewarding aspect of my work.
What is something about your job that not many people know about, and what would surprise other people about working in a private hospital?
One aspect of my role that may surprise others about working in a private hospital is the ability to make decisions and implement changes quickly. This flexibility allows us to allocate resources effectively and tailor initiatives to support our staff's needs.
Additionally, there is a strong emphasis on personalised engagement and collaboration, which fosters a dynamic and cohesive work environment where everyone plays a part in the hospital's success.
What do you love about working in a private hospital?
What I truly enjoy about working in a smaller private hospital is the close-knit, collaborative culture. It allows me to engage with and understand the challenges faced at all levels of the organisation, from frontline staff to executive leadership. This hands-on approach helps me appreciate the realities of different roles and effectively traverse the organisation.
I find it fulfilling to use these insights to make informed recommendations and influence positive change that addresses the real needs of our staff and improves our overall operations.
What do you like to do outside of work and/or what is something your colleagues don't know about you?
Outside of work, I enjoy spending quality time with family and friends, whether it is dining out, watching my children play sports, or volunteering at our local football club. I also love travelling, relaxing at the beach, and sharing wine and cheese with friends.
An interesting fact about me is that I am an identical twin. My career has been in human resources; she has built her career in clinical roles. However, it is interesting how our different paths within the same sector have led us to both appreciate the unique opportunities that private hospitals offer.
What is the best piece of advice you've ever received?
The best advice I have received is twofold:
- Most people are inherently good and want to contribute positively, which encourages trust and collaboration.
- Facts are your friends: they provide clarity and truth in decision-making, which ensures fair and transparent decisions.
