Janet Churchett - North Eastern Community Hospital

Thursday 12th June, 2025

Janet Churchett has worked for five years as a Central Sterile Supply Department/Gastro Tech at North Eastern Community Hospital in Adelaide, where she started employment in 1994.

What's the best part about your job?

The people I work with and the lovely atmosphere.

What is something about your job that not many people know about, and what would surprise other people about working in a private hospital?

We process the gastro scopes from beginning to end so they are ready for the next patient. The process is complex and there is lots involved. There are multiple guidelines and aspects of compliance we need to follow.

We have constant training to ensure we are working to standard including updates every two years. I have just completed a certificate 3 in sterilisation and am now qualified to work in theatres and the gastro unit.

What do you love about working in a private hospital?

The hospital is smaller and more intimate, so you get to know everyone in the team. These professional relationships and close connections lead to opportunities across our hospital.

I started at the hospital over 30 years ago in the catering department and was given the opportunity to develop in this role.

What do you like to do outside of work and/or what is something your colleagues don't know about you?

I'm an indoor plant enthusiast and I love Korean pop (K-POP) and Korean dramas.

What is the best piece of advice you've ever received?

My father said, "Whatever you are doing, do it the best you possibly can".
