Icon Group CEO Mark Middleton has been selected as a finalist for the prestigious Executive of the Year Awards for Australia for the third time.
Mr Middleton will again be in contention for the Healthcare category in the annual event, run by The CEO Magazine.
He was also a finalist in 2016 – a year after taking the helm at Australia's largest dedicated cancer care provider – and in 2019.
"This industry recognition is really a testament to the 4,000-plus Icon team members who are the true reason behind our success," said Mr Middleton, who was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the 2022 Queen's Birthday Honour's List.
The Executive of the Year Awards started in 2012, recognising CEOs for their commitment and dedication both to their company and the wider industry community, with winners named across 10 sectors.
In 2007, Mr Middleton started a radiotherapy clinic in Toowoomba, Queensland which eventually grew to become Icon seven years later and is now a global group with operations in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Malaysia, and China.
Icon Cancer Centre Australia, a member of the Australian Private Hospitals Association, has over 40 integrated care sites across the country.
"The dedication and talent of our people and the exceptional care they deliver to so many people across the globe are what inspires me to lead with purpose," Mr Middleton said.
"I'm so proud of what we've built together and the difference we are making to so many."
Icon Group congratulated Mr Middleton for his achievement and for "continuing to transform cancer care and help address the global cancer burden".
"Since 2015, he has been the driving force behind Icon's strategic growth," it said in a statement ahead of the awards ceremony, which will be held on 12 November 2025.
"Beginning with a handful of centres in Australia, to a globally-recognised integrated healthcare provider, Mark has remained steadfast in our mission to deliver the best care possible, to as many people as possible, as close to home as possible.
"Throughout his career, Mark has championed innovation with an emphasis on patient-centricity. His authentic and purpose-led leadership is mirrored throughout Icon and acts as the central role model for the group."
Another Icon Group leader has recently received recognition for his achievements, at the 2025 Health Industry Hub Catalysts for Change Awards on 16 October.
Paul Fenton, CEO of Icon Cancer Centre Australia and New Zealand, was a joint winner of the Advocacy Champion category along with Rare Cancers Australia CEO Christine Cockburn.
The award recognised the partnership between Icon and the patient advocacy group, which aims to ensure that cutting-edge cancer care is not defined by geography.
"This award serves as a powerful reminder of the purpose driven, patient-centred care we provide and our commitment to partnering with organisations to help close the cancer care gap," Mr Fenton said.
