Ramsay's $251 million investment in ACT

Ramsay Health Care has made its first investment in the ACT with a $251 million deal to acquire National Capital Private Hospital in Canberra.

Australia's largest private hospitals operator expects to take over the facility from Healthscope in mid-2026, subject to regulatory approval.

Ramsay Health Care Group CEO Natalie Davis said the deal was an "important and exciting milestone" for the company, which has more than 70 hospitals, clinics and surgical centres across Australia.

"National Capital Private Hospital has a highly-regarded clinical and operational team with deep connections to the ACT health community," Ms Davis said.

"The hospital has a strong reputation for clinical quality, patient safety and strong doctor partnerships. Ramsay shares those priorities, and we look forward to supporting the hospital's continued growth over the long term."

Located next to Canberra Hospital and the Australian National University Medical School, National Capital Private Hospital plays a key role in the region's health system, with notable expertise in cardiac care, orthopaedics and oncology.

"This acquisition reflects our focus on hospitals that deliver quality high-acuity care, serve established communities and have strong foundations to support clinical development and training," Ms Davis said.

"Working closely with Canberra Health Services and the National Capital Private Hospital team, we see real opportunity to further develop the services and reputation of this leading health precinct."

Ramsay will work closely with the hospital team and Healthscope in the coming months to plan a smooth and well-managed transition, and patients can expect their care to continue as normal.

"Our priority is continuity of care for patients and maintaining stability for the hospital team and doctors," Ms Davis said.
