CEO Steve Rajcany cuts the cake at Wollongong Private Hospital's 10th birthday celebration

Wollongong Private Hospital has launched a year-long celebration of its first decade caring for the Illawarra community.

Since opening in January 2016, the Ramsay Health Care facility has grown into a major centre for specialist and complex care in the southeast coast New South Wales region.

Its notable milestones include delivering more than 9,000 babies, performing more than 1,000 cardiac procedures and more than 5,000 robotic-assisted operations across specialities including orthopaedics, gynaecology, urology and general surgery.

"Over the past decade, Wollongong Private Hospital has evolved into a vital part of the Illawarra health system," CEO Steve Rajcany said.

"We've expanded services, introduced modern treatments and built strong clinical teams, all while remaining focused on providing safe, high-quality care close to home."

The 171-bed private hospital now provides all major acute services, including an intensive care unit, operating theatres, cardiac and vascular laboratories, and an endoscopy suite.

Its broad surgical capability includes cardiothoracics, orthopaedics, neurosurgery, ear, nose and throat surgery, bariatric surgery, gynaecological surgery, general surgery and plastics.

Mr Rajcany thanked the people behind the hospital's success over the past 10 years – its staff.

"Our nurses, doctors and support teams are the foundation of everything we do," he said.

"Many have been with us since the beginning, and their dedication and expertise have shaped the hospital community we are today."

Wollongong Private Hospital's program of anniversary activities will feature monthly events recognising different departments, teams and community connections.

"These celebrations are a way to reflect on what we've achieved together and to thank the people who have supported the hospital over the past decade," Mr Rajcany said.
