Major milestone brings 60 new mental health beds closer for South Australia

Thursday 15th October, 2026

The exciting development will deliver 60 new private mental health beds, expanding treatment options for South Australians and marking another significant investment in the state's mental health infrastructure.

Avive Clinic Adelaide has officially reached its topping-out milestone, with construction now progressing to the internal and clinical fit-out ahead of its anticipated opening in mid-2027.

The milestone was celebrated by Avive Health, developer Pelligra and South Australian Minister for Health and Wellbeing Blair Boyer, recognising the important role private hospitals play in expanding access to much-needed mental health services.

Once complete, the state-of-the-art hospital will offer psychiatrist-led inpatient treatment, day programs and outpatient services for adults experiencing conditions including depression, anxiety, trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder and substance use.

But this is far more than an investment in additional hospital beds.

Designed with patient wellbeing and recovery at its heart, the new facility will feature private patient rooms, dedicated therapy spaces, calming communal areas, innovative circadian lighting to support healthy sleep patterns, a fully equipped patient gym and chef-prepared meals.

The hospital will also provide consulting suites for psychiatrists and integrated care pathways, supporting patients throughout their recovery journey and beyond their hospital stay.

Avive Health Co-Founder and Co-CEO Greg Procter said the development represented a significant step forward for mental health care in South Australia.

"Avive Clinic Adelaide represents a significant investment in South Australia's mental health infrastructure and brings us closer to providing patients, families and referrers with another option for high-quality specialist care," Mr Procter said.

"Our aim is to support people throughout their recovery – from inpatient treatment through to day programs, outpatient services and ongoing care – while working closely with psychiatrists, referrers, health funds and the broader health system."

The development has also received a strong endorsement from the South Australian Government, with Minister Boyer welcoming the additional capacity and contribution of the private hospital sector.

"The additional 60 private mental health beds being constructed by the Avive Clinic will ensure more South Australians have access to crucial mental health services," Minister Boyer said.

"The Malinauskas Labor Government welcomes the contribution of private providers in helping expand capacity in our state's health system."

Located within Pelligra's growing health precinct on Wakefield Street, the hospital will sit alongside a range of complementary health services, creating opportunities for more connected and accessible patient care.

The Adelaide development represents another exciting chapter in Avive Health's national expansion. With hospitals already operating in Brisbane, the Mornington Peninsula and Melbourne, Adelaide will become the organisation's fourth hospital and its first in South Australia.

The project is a welcome example of private sector investment delivering more capacity, greater patient choice and new opportunities for Australians to access the specialist mental health care they need.

With construction progressing and opening day drawing closer, Avive Clinic Adelaide is set to become an important addition to South Australia's mental health landscape.
