Helen Robertson has been Environmental Services Assistant at Ramsay Health Care's Hillcrest Rockhampton Private Hospital in Central Queensland for over two years.

What's the best part about your job?

Being able to work in a team, the fast pace and working in all areas of the hospital, as well as patient contact.

What is something about your job that not many people know about, and what would surprise other people about working in a private hospital?

Cleaning in a hospital environment is reliant on being educated in and following hospital protocols. From the moment you start your shift you must be focused on how you perform your job. We undergo intensive education regarding these protocols. It's not just cleaning.

What do you love about working in a private hospital?

Private hospitals often provide a smaller working environment, flexibility, and stable hours. Everyone knows everyone. We work closely with all other departments to get the job done. I would say it promotes a stronger team of people.

What do you like to do outside of work and/or what is something your colleagues don't know about you?

I love spending time with my husband doing road trips to see our six grandchildren. I have been married for 43 years and I am a twin.

What is the best piece of advice you've ever received?

Always choose to be happy and love the job you do or don't do it.
