Sam Yates has been Administration Manager at Corymbia Day Hospital in Dandenong, part of the Nexus Hospitals group, since 2010.
What's the best part about your job?
Being part of an incredible team environment where collaboration and support are at the core. I also love that I'm constantly learning, growing, and developing – both personally and professionally.
What is something about your job that not many people know about, and what would surprise other people about working in a private hospital?
I enjoy the diverse range of tasks within my role and very different from day to day.
Due to the scope of practice, it is great to see the same patients returning over the years. They enjoy seeing the same staff upon each visit.
What do you love about working in a private hospital?
Being part of smaller team. Building strong working relationships with colleagues to develop robust collaboration, co-operation and teamwork. Great teamwork improves efficiency and employee engagement.
What do you like to do outside of work and/or what is something your colleagues don't know about you?
I am a group fitness instructor for three Les Mills programs: RPM, Sprint and Body Balance. I take seven classes per week. I love training for Hyrox events (combining 1km runs with eight functional fitness exercises) – 5am training is the best part of the day!
What is the best piece of advice you've ever received?
- Believe in yourself when no-one else does.
- Success is a journey, not a destination.
- The happiness of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts.
